Pimping your car just got pimper.
If you like modifying your car, the chances are you’ve always got your eye on something new to add to your ride. Could full carbon fibre wheels be the next big thing?
The advantage of carbonfibre wheels is the same as with carbonfibre generally – it’s very light, and very strong. Plus, it looks rather good too.
Of course, they’re not cheap. These are one-piece, full carbon fibre wheels by US firm Vitesse AuDessus, and prices start at $8,875. per wheel. Oof.
Mind you, as well as looking cool they will actually make a difference to the performance of your car. With each wheel weighing just 6kg on average, they’ll drastically reduce the unsprung weight of the vehicle and so improve handling.
Vitesse AuDessus‘ new line of wheels are made using prepreg carbonfibre fabric that’s hand-lade and then cured in an autoclave in aluminium moulds – the same process used by Formula 1 race teams. The firm also does a range of other carbon fibre bits for cars, including components and monocoques, so if you reeeeally like the dark weavy stuff, you can plaster it all over your new ride.
The new wheels come in a range of OEM spec, including for all current models from Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Bugatti, Bentley, Aston Martin, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and BMW. They also do bespoke wheels if you want something a bit different, although naturally they’re more expensive, starting at $10,125 per wheel.
Metal wheels are so 2014.
