Now I appreciate that this subject is a little off tack for us here at crankandpiston.com, however we are finding that as we grow organically and begin to spread the word around the world; Global car culture seems to be coming to us. Added to that, this particular example could help push and grow a scene here in the Middle East that is much required. As my post below mentioned, there are numerous guys out here with superb car handling skills that need an avenue to show it. Could drift be the key to this region?!?!?

So back to the story we received a great email from a chap called Ian Bergin yesterday asking whether the team here would like to get on board and back Dean “Karnage” Kearney in his persuit of Drift Greatness!

Helping spread the love and the name of “Karnage” appealed a great deal as this is passion and underground culture at it’s best. So over the weekend we will start to bring you some fantastic pictures from a sharp shooter by the name of Paddy Mcgrath and some back ground info on the guy they call Karnage!

  1. Getting a local drifting would certainly be a major attraction…and eventually I could see myself joining in in the Miata.

We’ve got a few amateurs who are dabbling in it but a long long way to go in terms of skills.

What we really lack though is a venue in which to legally practice proper drift skills. The Authorities – the government and the motorsports authorities – don’t seem to be so keen on the sport.

We have those skidpans in UAQ and Al Ain to start with, and supposedly one coming in Yas Island…but would be nice to see something in Dubai as well.

Main thing is to get people less interested in doing simple burnouts and get them practicing proper high speed, controled drifting throughout an entire course.

Big long winded convo on the subject on the evolve forum:
