The main event was the Pro Class. This may have been the first twin drift competition in the Middle East but none of the drivers seemed to be holding back. Samer Khadra (SSK Drift), Ahmed Omar (UAE Drift Force) and Ali Abalooshi (Alshehani Drifting Team) were all in contention for a podium finish.
It was Yousif Al Romaithy from Team Pirates of Drift that just squeezed ahead. The new colour scheme of Yousif’s V8 powered 300ZX was almost as flamboyant as his driving which saw him rewarded with third place.
The top two contenders in the Pro Class were in a league of their own. Muath Al-Essa and Abdulhadi Al-Qahtani from the Al Jazirah Ford Drifting Team were almost inseparable. Even the judges were having a difficult time choosing between them and they were forced to go on a final run.
It was Abdulhadi Al-Qahtani that lucked-out on the final run for an extremely hard-earned second place. It will be interesting to see how the competition develops between these two Ford team mates and if they can maintain their dominance as the season progresses.
Overall victory went to Muath Al-Essa who praised both the high standard of the competition and the facilities provided by Yas Marina Circuit. A well earned victory for the Saudi driver and a taste of things to come throughout the season.
Round 2 will take place on the 21st of December at Dubai Autodrome. For information please visit Drift UAE
