From my perspective this purchase gave me the chance to get on track with the Caterham…Sadly for Geoff, he unfortunately had mechanical problems right at the beginning of the race and had to the pull the plug. Happily the Caterham performed brilliantly and I managed to finish the race 40sec ahead of a radical..which was an excellent result for my first race.

However there in lay the problem! The Caterham result started the snowball of money spending and long nights. I just had to get my own car!

Not having much in the way of disposable income I had to check my options carefully, leading me to go for the UAE Touring Car Championship. I enlisted the help of Honda wizzes, Warren Gabriel and his electrical friend Ray and set the team to work on a stock road going Honda Integra. We started the process in December and with a lot of blood, sweat, tears we managed to get the car ready for the january race meeting.

Not wanting or expecting to do anything this season with the car it actually went brilliantly. Keeping up with some of the top guys in the Touring Car Class 2. Mechanical failures did came and haunt us and annoyingly didn’t seem to leave us for the rest of the season. I suppose the good news was that when the car ran it went well – very well in fact. Especially for a car that cost only 50,000aed to put out on the track.

As for the old man he seemed to be in the same boat as me. With a nasty little crash in its first race wearing the team colours folowed by gearbox trouble at Yas Marina. So after much frustration Geoff decided to get back in the Caterham and will run it again next season in the all new Sportscar Championship.

As for me. The Integra will be improved in the areas we know were weak and will focus on these ready for the new season.
So that about wraps it up.. .Next year is on the way and our targets are for more enjoyment, more budget racing punching above our weight and best of all, getting back into the great scene.
