It’s quite frustrating going to a town or city and knowing that there are dozens, hundreds of fantastic cars nearby that we haven’t seen, and may never see. It’s that old issue of not being able to be everywhere at once.
This then is the first of our Driveway Heroes features, our attempt to bring you those hidden treasures. Not out on the highway, or in front of a dramatic backdrop, but at home in the garage or on the driveway, where they’re treasured by their owners.
First up is Luke McGreevy‘s 2004 Aston Martin Vanquish, a new addition to the Dubai resident’s household after years of dreaming about the British bruiser. But he never intended to buy this particular car. “I was actually selling a car for a mate to the dealer, but then I saw an absolutely mint Vanquish sitting on the showroom floor,” he recalls.
It was love at first sight as she sat there, resplendent in Tungsten Silver paint and cream leather interior, with only 11,000km on the clock. She looked, dare we say it, well looked after. “This, as any petrolhead in Dubai knows, is a rarity in a country where one-year-old cars look like they’re ready for the scrapheap,” notes Luke. The downside to this immaculate condition though, was that such a monster as the Vanquish clearly hadn’t been driven in the way for which it had been designed. Luke decided to change that by buying it and gracing the open road with Ian Callum‘s epic design.
“I personally think it looks better than any Aston they have made since, but then again, I would say that,” says Luke. “I feel as though many of the recent Jags have elements of the Vanquish in them, such as the massive grill and big haunches. The interior is a nice place to be, although raiding the Ford parts bin for the electric window buttons was a mistake.
