The countdown to the Dubai International Motor Show has started, and come November we’ll be heading down to the city’s convention centre to see what the motoring gods have brought us. Exactly what gifts will turn up we’re not sure, but here’s some idle speculation as to the machines that we’re hoping to see.

Audi has already confirmed that the A1, A6 and A7 will be on show, and they’ll be showing off the R8 GT too, but all we’ve managed to glean from them regarding the rest of their stand is that there will be two secret machines. One of them will be a concept (the A3 E-Tron, perhaps?) and the other will be a regional premiere of a production car. Our fingers are crossed for the new S5.

Aston has had a busy year or so and despite its current lack of a UAE dealer, we’re expecting to see its latest production cars, the Virage and the Vantage S. Don’t be too surprised to see one of its racing V12 Zagatos, and maybe even a pre-production version of the road car due for very limited release next year.

But recent spy shots in the international motoring press have suggested that GTC, Supersports and Speed variants built around the latest Conti platform might not be too far away. Would it be too much to hope for one of them to appear at Dubai?

We’ve spotted an early Sonic hatchback pootling around Dubai, so we’re pretty sure that’ll be on Chevrolet’s stand alongside the Camaro range and with a big marketing push behind it, the Malibu too. Maybe some Transformers-related goodies too? There’s a special edition Camaro just announced, so that’ll likely be there in all its yellow-striped glory.

Chryler’s latest 300 should be making an appearance in the Middle East pretty soon, and there’s a snarling SRT8 version in the works as well, as seen at the New York Motor Show earlier this year. That’s the one we’re interested in. A 200 has also been released Stateside – the replacement for the Sebring. Might we see that make the trip over too?

The Dubai Motor Show will see the Middle East debut of the new XKR-S, as well as the rest of the 2012 range. But we’re aware that Jaguar recently announced it’ll put the stunning C-X75 into production. Doesn’t Dubai seem the ideal place to show off a $1.1 million cutting edge supercar…?

Are we predictable in our desire to see all of Chrysler’s high-powered stuff? The latest Grand Cherokee arrived on Middle Eastern shores earlier this year, and the SRT8 version is soon to hit the US. We don’t expect it to arrive in these parts until next year, but a sneak preview at the Dubai show would be nice.

By the time of the show, the Aventador will have arrived in the Middle East, but you can be sure there’ll be one at the show if you haven’t seen one on the streets yet. Hopefully a brand new car will be revealed before Dubai too – rumour suggests it could be a production version of the Sesto Elemento. Keep an eye out for the lightweight Gallardo LP570-4 Performante as well.

Lotus
The confirmed presence of British sports car manufacturer Lotus at the show is most interesting. Currently, the firm doesn’t have a presence in the UAE, but with ambitious global expansion plans and plenty of new models in the works, it seems likely that’ll change in the future. We don’t know on what scale they’ll be coming to Dubai, but hopefully we’ll catch a glimpse of some of the myriad new concept models revealed of late (such as the Elise above), as well as existing cars like the Exige and Evora.

The classic British brand, now Chinese owned, has had a fairly low key reintroduction to the Middle East this year since its takeover by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation. The 550 and 750 saloons are already on sale, but new cars are being built in the UK including the 6 saloon pictured above. A concept sketch called the Concept 5 was revealed earlier this year, so any of those could make the trip to Dubai. Chinese cars are improving in quality all the time, so we’re interested to see what they’re doing.

With signs for a new Dubai showroom up as I type this, the Middle East is getting ready for McLaren’s first road car since the F1 – the MP4-12C. The region will be an important one for the British manufacturer, so expect a very swanky looking stand showing off the ridiculously fast and high-tech sports car. Perhaps we might get a visit from the race version too, the MP4-12C GT3?

As well as the rest of the range, Maserati will bring the GranCabrio Sport (above) to Dubai as its latest model (unless they’re planning to spring something else on us before the end of the year). The top-down Maser boasts 434bhp and will likely sit next to a Quattroporte and a GranTurismo of some description. With the Middle East’s MC Trofeo race series underway by the time the show takes place, expect an appearance from a Trofeo race car too.

We’ve already had a sneaky peek at the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series, but we want to see it again. A new B-Class is due to be revealed at Frankfurt next month, so we should see that too, and we could get a glimpse at the SLS AMG Roadster. The new E63 AMG, with its 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8, is also likely to make an appearance.

Porsche’s big news of 2011 will be the forthcoming 991 (above), which is due to be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and we’ll be amazed if it doesn’t dominate the stand in Dubai. But alongside it will likely be the ultimate versions of the 997, including the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 and probably a racing car from the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East.

Several new-look Toyotas are in the works, most notably the revised Camry and Yaris, and we expect one or both of those to come to Dubai. Dealers in the US have been given previews of the new-look Avalon, so mark that down as a maybe too. No production FT-86 though – that’s planned for a global premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show in December, so we may have to do with a possibly-rebadged version of the Scion FR-S (above) instead, which is essentially the same car.
