Some of you will be already aware that we run a 1992 W124 500E within our management fleet. With the big mercs aggressive stance, lower profile, flared fenders, side skirts, front air-dam and wider tires, the big 500E is very easy to spot in a line up of bland looking early 90’s E-Class mercs. Added to the look is the fact that it was built in very low numbers (in modern terms), was built by men and not machines the 500 is already well on the way to iconic status!
However there is something even better in the world of W124 Mercedes Benz machines….The might E60 AMG.
The truly mighty and monumentally rare E60 AMG was built in super low numbers. We are talking less than 150 units here, 126 to be precise, which even in modern super car terms is less than nothing. So stumbling across one in Dubai is pretty special.
The E60 AMG, which don’t forget was built in the days prior to AMG being brought in house, was built upon the aforementioned 500E. However the Doctors within AMG built upon the awesome chassis and threw the works at the Porsche tuned chassis. With a massive fuel tank, legendary build quality and power station levels of power, the E60 AMG was the best car of it’s day to hack across massive expanses of land. The consumate continental bruiser then…
All being well, we will get the opportunity to get behind the wheel of this particular E60 in the coming weeks and will be bringing you a contemporary road test between this and the latest equivalent out of the Mercedes stable. It’s going to be monumental, so check back soon.
