Oops! Camaro Z28 prototype hits the barriers at the Nürburgring
Now, that’s got to be quite embarrassing, and not just because Volkswagen broke a lap record at the same circuit a week earlier with the Golf GTI Clubsport S. This after all is the new Z28, the most fiery Camaro on Chevy’s line-up, seen for the first time in camouflage colours, and – if rumours are to be believed – could well end up with a stonking 7-litre naturally aspirated V8 under that menacing bodywork.
Said prototype regrettably goes ‘CRUNCH’ into the barriers whilst testing at the Nürburgring in this new video when the back-end gets loose coming out of turn…actually we’ve no idea (anoraks, answers in the comments section below please). Fortunately carnage is limited, with both the driver walking away unscathed, the V8 avoiding a direct hit and the suspension receiving only a moderate punt, the brunt of the impact instead being taken by the front fender in a solid team-player effort. Unsurprisingly, Chevrolet hasn’t commented on the cause of the crash, but has been quick to praise the safety aspects of its test mule. Which, given what HAS happened on the Green Hell in the past, is a fair point.
