The Tesla Model S P85+ is set to get its own racing series… apparently.
The Electric GT World Series is set to begin in 2017 and will star the Tesla Model S P85+.
Featuring a total of 20 drivers and ten teams the series will consist of a seven-race season, with races taking place at official racetracks across America, Asia and Europe.
The series will initially feature the Tesla Model S P85+ but will look to introduce other makes and model in the future.
The standard model can sprint from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds.
The racing version features upgraded suspension and brakes as well as cooling, with some weight saving taking place.
Electric GT Holdings technical director Agustin Paya, said: “The Tesla Model S is one of the best cars ever made, and certainly one of the best 100% electric cars. Although it is a luxurious super tourer, it seems to be made for racing. Its weight distribution and low centre of gravity, despite its considerable mass—more than two tons unmodified—allows unbelievable cornering speed, not forgetting its unending torque, which all add up to a great racing car.
“We have been testing the car already on the Barcelona Catalunya F1 Circuit as well as the legendary Madrid Jarama circuit … The Model S is destined to become a GT champion.
“The fun of the Electric GT category is that we are going to watch commercially available cars racing on circuits around the world.”
