The running order was split into three separate categories, starting with the All-Wheel Drive crew. The sadistic track layout began with a tight Auto-X style section laid out with cones. Too much traction (normally the advantage of AWD) becomes problematic when faced with preforming tight 360º turns around a stationary object. Lost time here had to be made up on the fast section which ran around the back of the Oval Circuit with only a single chicane to momentary slow the drivers’ swift progress.

Several serious looking time attack EVOs were in attendance. From Nadir Odeh‘s EVO III to Weaam’s EVO X, Mitsubishis easily outnumbered the other AWD cars and few (if any) were running stock set-ups. Steve Swindells in his monstrous R35 GT-R proved untouchable in the AWD group. Heaving the cumbersome looking Nissan around the cones before blasting along the fast section with an appropriate Godzilla-like roar. Nimbleness be damned! This was GT-R POWAAAH!

The Japanese marques dominated this group but a special mention has to go to Andrea in his Audi S6, which was chucked around the track with much gusto. Perhaps not the first choice for a track weapon on a tight track, but a fine representative of the Evolve ‘attitude’. Rivalry between the owners of similar models does naturally exist but when you are the only S6 present, you are assured of a subcategory win. Didn’t stop Andrea from pushing harder and harder on each successive run and knocking nearly 30 seconds of his time by the end of the day.
