Swiss artist Fabien Oefner explodes a Porsche 956 and Ford GT40 among others in his latest ‘Disintegration II’ art series.
Any of you remember Fabian Oefner and his amazing set of ‘exploding’ automotive artwork? Dubbed ‘Disintegration’, rather fittingly, the artwork demonstrated what selected sports cars from the 1950s and 60s – including the Jaguar E-Type – might look like if it was slowly disassembled, including engine, transmission and suspension components, among others. Well if you were a fan of that, then you’ll probably be intrigued to see the brand new ‘Disintegration II’ selection.
It’s an art that represents the time, effort and attention to detail required to bring each model to fruition, though Fabian himself puts it slightly more elegantly: “This series explores essential questions about the relationship of time and reality, ultimately creating a visually rich rendition of a moment that never existed.”
Comprising five new images – including a Porsche 956, a Bugatti 57 SC, a Ford GT40 and an Alfa Romeo 158/159 ‘Alfetta’ – each piece starts out life as a detailed sketch. And that’s the easy bit. Each of the 2000 (yes, 2000!) components used in each image is placed where they might reasonably be expected to end up following an explosion, then suspended by a piece of wire to create the right effect. As the behind the scenes video below demonstrates, it’s a process than requires more patience than God and the talent to match.
