On the eve of the 2018 Le Mans 24 Hours, Ferrari has revealed a special-edition 488 which will be offered exclusively to its motorsport customers. Tagged the Piloti Ferrari, it’s a product of the marque’s Tailor Made programme and honours Ferrari’s triumphs in the 2017 WEC. Ferrari has confirmed the Piloti will appear in the metal tomorrow ahead of the famous endurance race.
Speaking ahead of the model’s debut, Ferrari said the Ferrari 488 Pista Piloti ‘was designed to recognise the success of clients who race Ferraris’. As a result, the Piloti receives a motorsport- and Italian-inspired makeover to differentiate it from the regular 488 Pista, which itself donates the running gear.
Most obvious of the unique, aforementioned design touches are the Tricolore stripes that ape the 488 GTE – one stretches centrally down the length of the car, while another pair line the side skirts. Integrated into the former, placed either side of the S-duct outlet, are a trio of decals recognising the Ferrari Pro team’s 2017 WEC driver and manufacturer titles, and the racing influence sees each car wear a number – chosen by the customer – aft of the front wheelarches.
Carbonfibre addenda helps to further distinguish the Piloti from the cooking Pista, with the dovetail rear wing and vent surrounds (flanking the B-pillars) woven from the lightweight material. Four colour finishes – recalling Ferrari’s racing past – are available for the Piloti: Rosso Corsa, Blu Tour De France, Nero Daytona and Argento Nürburgring.
Step inside and the colours of the Italian flag are applied to the perforated, Alcantara bucket seats, gearshift paddles and floor mats; like the exterior, there’s plenty of carbon trim, too. To ensure owners remember the Piloti’s Tailor Made origins, there’s an exclusive identification plate and carbon sills bearing the division’s logo.
