Dunno about you, but we’ve been transfixed by the Olympics over the past couple of weeks, marvelling at the feats of human skill and endurance and wondering if there’s any argument for putting the best drivers in go-karts for a motorsport event at Rio 2016.
Sadly, that seems unlikely, but there is a modicum of interest for the car-obsessed casual observer during London 2012, thanks to event sponsors BMW. The firm has supplied a fleet of 1/4 scale MINIs to the games to serve as transport not for shorter athletes, but for the things they chuck the length of the stadium.
Javelins, discuses, hammers and shots will all be ferried back to the throwing line by the little electric MINIs, which are being radio controlled by a team of volunteers. And according to insiders at the stadium, there have been several races up and down the London stadium’s track after hours. Well, you would, wouldn’t you?
