Good news for hot hatch fans in the Middle East! The all-new 2012 Ford Focus ST is destined to be a global car, which not only means that the frantic Focus will hit the road stateside, but also over here in the dust bowl.
Though Ford has sold the ST since 2005 in Europe – I’m intentionally ignoring the first gen car which was never really a proper hot hatch – the 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo monster never made it to the region, mainly due to issues surrounding the engine’s performance in the rather warm temperatures we experience.
There shouldn’t be any issues with the new car as the engine is now a development of the 2.0-litre turbo Ecoboost engine that’s making its way into a raft of new Fords. In the ST, it’ll be offered in a 247bhp state of tune and Ford promises the car will offer an ‘intoxicating cocktail of exhilarating performance and handling accompanied by an addictive sound’.
We’ll get a good look at the new car, finished in ‘Tangerine Scream’, at the Paris Motorshow at the end of the month.
