For the next two years the GT40 would compete internationally, with noted endurance racers Mike Hailwood, David Hobbs and even Bruce McLaren behind the wheel.

But heady heights failed to arise, and chassis P/1074 would soon come to the end of its competitive run in 1969 after a string of unspectacular performances. Shortly after in 1972, it was sold to a private collector in Staffordshire, UK, where it has resided ever since.

With shooting of the iconic Le Mans well underway, filming the cars at high-speed for the film’s gripping wheel-to-wheel action had to be done at speed. There was no two ways about it. Consequently, in preparation for the film, the entire roof was removed and both doors welded shut so that heavy camera equipment could be locked down securely: chassis P/1074 effectively became the first GT40roadster’.
