There isn’t the hive of activity you’d expect to find at an official pre-season test. In fact, the atmosphere in the garage is pretty relaxed.

Naturally though, there are a few nerves creeping in. Let’s not forget these guys, fresh out of karts, are just beginning their motorsport careers. This is a whole new ballgame for these youngsters, most of whom haven’t even hit their twenties yet (a point that is re-emphasised when I learn neither Daniel Woodruff nor Nicolas Canal can be here since they are studying for exams and/or taking their driving test). A few nerves is inevitable.

That’s not to say though that ambition is sky-high. Rahul Raj Mayer, for example, is a fresh face to FG1000 this season, and though the Malaysian is not making any promises, he’s keen to show what he can do.

“I’m a bit stressed out definitely because it’s my first time here. Basically I’m just trying to learn what I can as quickly as I can. I want to do my best in the Championship, hopefully get some sponsors and move up as much as I can: Formula Three, GP2, and then Formula One.
