Lamborghini unveils the ‘most extreme model in the Gallardo line-up’, the limited edition Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
This is the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, the latest in a line of slightly faster, slightly more batshit baby raging bulls. And this time Lamborghini is not messing around, since this new limited edition model is based on the same Lamborghini Super Trofeo race car used in “the fastest one-make series on the planet” (which, by the by, crankandpiston has also had a spin in).
The price for the Squadra Corse is an eye-watering $253,000 plus tax, but bear in mind that for added oomph the new Gallardo also shares the same V10 engine with the Super Trofeo from which it is derived. Kicking out 562bhp and 397lb ft of torque, the Squadra Corse V10 can power the Lambo from 0-100kph in 3.4 seconds, 0-200kph in just 10.4 seconds, and onto a 320kph top speed. Pretty nippy, basically.
Further modifications have also been brought across from the Super Trofeo car, elements that essentially make the new Squadra a racing car for the road. Both models share the same rear wing, which produces three times the load of a standard Gallardo LP 560-4 and thus guarantees pretty formidable cornering speeds. The removable engine hood is another transfer from the Super Trofeo, and in an effort to reduce weight (the dry weight of the Squarda is only 1340kg), the rear wing and hood are made from carbon fibre. Racing-inspired carbon ceramic brakes ensure formidable stopping power.
The colours of the Italian flag are used in decal strips along the sides of the new Lambo, while the hood, front air intakes, rear diffuser and 19-inch forged wheels are painted in high-gloss black. Colour options range from Giallo Midas (yellow) or Bianco Monocerus (white), to Grigio Thalasso (grey) or Rosso Mars (red).
Yes, we’re wondering where the Italians get these names from too.
