As you may well have noticed, there has been a fair amount of input from a certain ‘Fuel Magazine’ here on Crank & Piston, so I thought it appropriate to give an official introduction and tell you what it’s all about.
Pretty much 2 years ago, I got along to a sizeable Hot Rod event here in the state of Victoria, Australia. It was a celebration of the 1932 Ford in all its chopped, channelled, and slammed glory. I hadn’t really been to a major ‘Rod show before, and it was around the time that I started to get really keen on photography in general.

That show became a turning point for me, as within a couple of weeks of sharing the photos about on a web-album or 2, I got a call from Street Machine Magazine, who wanted to print the photos for a feature of the event. Following on from that tie-up, I was fortunate enough to get some regular work from them that year at a few different events.

All that shooting around mad Hot Rod shows not only built up a fairly mammouth collection of photos on my hard drive, but also gave me the chance to meet some of the fantastic people involved in the Australian Hot Rod scene.

Round about this time last year, the suggestion was put to me by one said ‘Rodder that if I have so many cool pics lying around on my hard drive, and Street Machine had published them a long time prior, “Why don’t you put something together yourself?” And so…. the idea was born.

I think that conversation happened on a Wednesday or Thursday and, I kid you not, that following weekend I put together a complete draft for Fuel Magazine issue 01. After some digging in to formalities of printing and name-sourcing, next thing I know I have a website up and running, and 28 boxes of magazines sitting in my garage.

My angle is just that.. to communicate the awesome scene and culture that we have here by using photography and art mediums.
