‘Goodwood Festival of Speed: The First Twenty Years’ comes direct from the event itself and does exactly what it says on the tin.
Now that the summer months are fast approaching in the Middle East, we’ve started eying up where best to get our motorsport fixes. And since most of the crankandpiston team are British expats, the Goodwood Festival of Speed is the big one.
Our tickets are already booked, and we hope within the next few months to bring you – much as we did last year – coverage on the ground from Goodwood. For now though, we were looking for something to get us warmed up ahead of schedule, and this title from the Goodwood Road Racing Company starts us off nicely.
Focusing on the first twenty years of the event, Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off with a quote from 1996 Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill – who remembers his first run on the hill in 1993 – before moving on to images of countryman and fellow Grand Prix winner Eddie Irvine sitting on 1956 500cc World Champion John Surtee’s MV Augusta, and a fresh-faced Jenson Button chatting with two-time 500cc World Champion Barry Sheene. Quotes, narrative and pics aplenty as the title runs us through twenty years of one of the biggest events on the motorsport calendar.
If you’re also interested to see some event footage from the mid-90s, a DVD of Goodwoods past can also be bought alongside this hardback trip down memory lane.
