Ambient temperature: 43C. Here we are testing ‘Ralph’ – our first FG1000 – on the Club Circuit at the Dubai Autodrome.
During the first session of the morning we mechanically pegged the throttle to 80% giving the car 150bhp, then we put it back to 100% throttle for 190bhp. Making a 2 second diference per lap. Mind you even on 80% the car is completely manic pulling hard out of the bowl.
We also tested the temporary silencer as the standard straight through pipe is a bit on the loud side. According to the borrowed sound meter it was about 112db on drive by up the hill to Turn 1. We are not sure of the readings though and will need to get someone who knows what they’re doing with it.
The track was dusty…Very dusty. The Dunlop Spanish F3 tyres on the car are the same ones the car was delivered with, and this is our fourth test. There was a lack of grip but mainly due to the dusty track. The team made some camber adjustments to control the rear tyre temperature as we have found the the car very sensitive to changes, which is great even in these dusty conditions.
Summary? The car was hitting 222kph going into Turn 1 at 12,000 revs. Best laptine: 1.05. Promising. The best lap we have seen on this loop is a 1.00 but in a 380bhp V8. All looking good then.
