This kitted AE86 stood out from a distance with its white exterior and bright orange innards. As I approached I could clearly see that something was not quite stock in the engine bay. The sticker on the windshield said it all: ‘1UZFEAE86WTF!’ Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Obviously the original 1.6-litre 4 cylinder power plant was not packing enough punch for this owner and a 4.0-litre V8 1UZ-FE was pressed into service. Some people just love the torque, I guess.

This year´s JCCS was held on Saturday 15 September, which coincided with the 103rd birthday of Yukata Katayama. Mr. K, as he is fondly referred to, is known as the father of the Z and held in high esteem within the Nissan/Datsun community. The Z remains one of the company’s most popular platforms for enthusiasts and the sheer number of noteworthy examples on display was overwhelming.

This beautiful orange S30 was particularly nice with its RB25 transplant and a prime candidate for the Mr. K seal of approval. Unfortunately Katayama-San was unable to travel from Japan to this year´s event, but a large banner was passed around for everyone to sign wishing him a happy birthday.
