Slightly less performance orientated was this stunning 1963 P312 Datsun Bluebird. Within the classic car community there is an oft-used saying that ‘a car is only original once’. With only 101,000km on the clock and in unrestored original condition, I’d say this Bluebird qualifies.

The Toyota Museum brought along one of the oldest cars to display. This 1959 Toyopet Crown has undergone a complete restoration and the combination of powder blue paint and white wall tyres simply oozes nostalgia. Fortunately, the Toyota Museum had deemed a 2JZ swap unnecessary.

One of the crowd’s favourites, and the only Subaru present, was this little 360. Its tiny rear-mounted, two-stroke and two-cylinder engine is a world away from modern Fuji Heavy Industries power plants. It is about time that Subaru reinvented the 360 and followed it with an STi version in trademark Blue Mica, with gold rims instead of just teasing us with concepts every few years at motor shows.

If some miniature muscle from Honda is more your thing then it does’t get much better than a City Turbo II. I confess to having a bit of a soft spot for tiny Japanese cars that look like they have been abusing steroids, and the Honda City Turbo II is close to the top of my wish list. I am not sure if I would have the courage to drive one on the mean streets of Dubai though.
