Since my last update the WRX has passed the 1500km mark, meaning it was time for the first (free) service. I rocked up to the local dealer on a Thursday evening without an appointment simply to ask when they could squeeze me in, and was pleasantly surprised to find they’d had a cancellation. In went the Subaru, and 45 minutes and a new high score on ‘Angry Birds’ later, and the car was back with a clean bill of health.
With the easing in period now over, I could finally start pushing the car in the way it was intended. And whilst I’m a big fan of the way the car handles the corners (it is a beast), I’ve noticed the car seems to struggle in Sport mode, particularly between 4000 and 5500rpm. I’ve since hit the forums and found that this sluggishness comes down to the stock tune, so that’s something I’ll be working on a little further down the line.
Unfortunately the local dealer is pretty strict on mods: they’ve made no secret of the fact that they will void the warranty if the car does not stay stock. I’m happy to take the risk though, since I’ve just ordered a set of KW V3 Clubsport coilovers to give the car some stance and hopefully better handling for track days I hope to attend soon. I’m also looking into a set of custom wheels, but won’t spill the beans too early on that…
Next month I’ll have some updates on a coilover installation and some paint work I’m having done on it. And maybe a new windscreen. On my way back from the service, a truck tyre managed to flick a stone right into the glass. Typical.
