Lamborghini Aventador SVJ promises a new level of performance

An official video of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has been posted along with claims it will boast ‘the best weight to power ratio’.

A video showcasing the forthcoming Lamborghini Aventador SVJ testing at the Nurburgring has been released by Lamborghini, along with claims that the model has been ‘designed to have the best weight to power ratio’. It follows the first episode in a mini-series of teasers, which will run as Lamborghini continues to preview the Aventador S-based, Super Veloce Jota.

What exactly the power-to-weight claim means requires further clarification. Applied in a Lamborghini context, it would mean that the SVJ posts a power-to-weight figure that betters the 456bhp/per tonne, attributed to the Aventador SV. However, this assumes we exclude the all-carbonfibre, Sesto Elemento (just twelve made production) from the equation, which possess a power-to-weight ratio of 563bhp per tonne.

To achieve the ‘best’ ratio, Lamborghini has added a host upgrades to the Aventador S platform in creating the SVJ – probably influenced by previous track-biased Lamborghini models such as the Aventador SV and Huracan Performante.

We don’t know the exact nature of these modifications. However, we expect the Aventador S’s 6.5-litre V12 – rated at 730bhp and 509lb ft of torque – has been breathed on and a 50bhp increase sounds about right, based on the performance uplift enjoyed by the Aventador SV (over the Aventador). Using the SV as a guide again, the SVJ is likely to weigh in 50kg lighter than the Aventador S with carbonfibre playing a part.

A quick glimpse at the photos confirms the SVJ’s track-oriented remit thanks to its aggressive, aerodynamically optimised body kit. It will incorporate the Italian marque’s active aero technology – ALA – which first featured on the Huracan Performante. At the rear, the exhaust outlets have been moved up into the middle section of fascia, permitting Lamborghini to redesign the rear diffuser where the pipes were previously housed.

With more teaser videos to follow, Lamborghini will drip-feed further details of the Aventador SVJ so we expect to learn more about specifications, pricing and the release date very soon.
