And that’s pretty much the idea behind this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show Design Challenge, an annual competition that encourages in-house manufacturer design studios from across the globe to showcase their finest work. This year the theme is Law Enforcement, and the challenge is to create the ultimate patrol vehicle for 2025. The inspiration has already got the likes of Bentley, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai and Subaru raring to go, they having already submitted their interpretations.

There’s still some time to go before the final winners are announced on 29 November. If the highly distinctive – and a few cases dystopian – creations that have already been submitted though are a sign of things to come, then we may well yet see some Mad Max infused items.
