I was fortunate enough to grab this shot while away in Germany a couple of months ago and have been wanting to put a little post together about the driver behind the wheel. Now, Nigel Mansell has always been a hero of mine as I am sure he is was for a number of petrol heads out there. Not only was he superbly fast, brave and a character, he drove without any fear for anyone.

So you see the connection?. Leo Mansell (born 4 January 1985 on the Isle of Man) pictured above is the son of the 1992 Formula One world champion, Nigel Mansell and inadvertently has got a “reasonable” amount to live up to.

Leo and his younger brother (Greg) have always raced in the same racing series around Europe throughout their careers. Starting through the usual route Leo hit the Karting scene in 2000 and then made his way through and on into single-seater racing in 2006 with BMW.

He is now successfully racing in the European Le Mans Series in this awesome GT2 Ferrari F430 and more than proving his abilities. Sadly it looks like we will never see Leo or Greg in F1 anytime soon however there is a very strong chance that Family Mansell will be a force to reckon with in GT Racing circles very soon. Now that is something I really hope to be able to see!
