Period specific posters and licence plate numbers from America and Europe (and Google) on the walls in the garage demonstrate just how important ‘the right attitude’ is: the whole workshop – it’s tempting to say showroom – is a testament to the 1960s/1970s, and plans are already afoot to create a sixties-themed waiting area for customers, down to the booths and pool table, to complete the atmosphere.
“We just wanted to have a vintage look, and feel about the place. But we also wanted to have a place that was clean and organised, and that was one of our main goals starting up. In a cluttered shop, you’re always losing stuff, or something’s always being thrown away. We setup a standard for housekeeping before we even opened the doors. Something amidst this treasure trove of classics though catches my eye. Something altogether different, in pretty much everyway: a Segway.
“We figured that since the cars don’t have the greatest emissions, maybe we could offset our carbon footprint. Green is part of the reason, since they are 100% electrical, and ‘green’ [rubs fingers together] is definitely a part of it [Laughs]!
“Honestly the Segways were just a fun thing. A friend of mine had the distribution for Segway in the GCC and was going back to the States, so he just asked if we’d like to represent them. That’s been going now for nearly a year. And the amazing thing with the Segways is that we’ll go one or two months without a single enquiry or service, and then all of a sudden we’ll get ten people in one day turning up wanting one!”
