What will the supercars of the future look like? McLaren reckons that by the end of the decade, we’ll be driving THIS.
Well, sort of. The British sports car company has previously expressed its desire to build a small, stripped out sports car, and asked vehicle design students at London’s Royal College of Art to imagine what such a machine would look like.
The Autopure competition was overseen by McLaren design chief Frank Stephenson and this was the winning entry, the single-seater MP4-S penned by Teeravit Hanharutaivan. The lightweight track car is built around a carbonfibre-reinforced plastic tub and uses a head-up display instead of a dashboard to save weight.
It might look crazy, but this is more than just a flight of fancy; McLaren has a dedicated designer looking at the future of the supercar after 2020, and don’t be surprised if something like the MP4-S becomes the Ariel Atom of the next decade.
