“If I was able to, I’d like to have two of these on the go at any one time,” Mackenzie says of future one-off McLarens. “If it’s a two-year cycle the first year is in the design studio and the second half is the engineering and the build phase. Don’t be surprised if his hopes are realised. The global customisation market is much more important today than in the 90s, Korbach says. More and more people want their cars personalised, and manufacturers need to be ready to cater to their demands. “10 years ago if a manufacturer said ‘no’, it was accepted and tolerated,” he says. “Things have moved on since then. I’m very certain that a lot of clients would not accept it these days, the customer has got way more demanding.
