A final check from Michael and Sam then it was time for a top secret dyno run with Mr. Badawi working his magic. With experience of over 1600 engine builds at One Thousand Dunes (and all documented) the EVO was in good hands.
With all systems ‘operating within acceptable parameters’ it was time for a real world test which brings us up to date on the build.
We hooked up with Michael, Sam and Joel Vill (Sam’s right hand man, and security guard by the looks of it) at the weekend for the EVO’s first public appearance.
On track at the Dubai Autodrome, this would be the real test to see if all this work had paid off and an opportunity to gauge if the sum of all these parts created a harmonious whole.
The pace along the straight at the Dubai Autodrome, even though running in ‘test setup’, was incredibly fast.
Even short shifting to protect the new engine, the speed of the EVO was phenomenal.
Although the EVO was running street tyres (Pirelli of course), last season’s rather tired stock braking system and with no floor or diffuser both Michael and Sam seemed very happy with how balanced the car felt in the corners.
Want to see for yourself? Fortunately Michael had his GoPro hooked-up for your viewing pleasure. Remember, this is under open track-day regulations with no overtaking in the corners and no racing allowed.
A good taste of things to come we think.
