Modena Trackdays 2013. Sights to behold

[Not a valid template]

The racing was not as dramatic and fierce as events like the 6 Hour Classic or the Spa Classic, nor would there be any winners or losers, but that certainly didn’t mean the cars weren’t pushed close to their limits. It is quite a sight seeing a near priceless Ferrari 250 GTO being put through its paces, sliding through Eau Rouge or barreling down towards Les Combes. This will be a sight that will stick with me for some time.

The prancing horses were not the only cars out on-track, since the organisers invited some pretty special guests to give a bit of friendly competition. It was a joy to watch an original GT40 and/or Shelby Daytona hunt down a classic/modern Ferrari, a joy I am not sure the Ferrari owners shared. Constantly watching their mirrors for anything other than a prancing horse emblem, trying hard not to let them past and in turn not to let their brand down. Luckily for everyone the competition was friendly and the paddock was alive with smiles and laughter. A flavourful mix of international owners and drivers (most of whom looked to fed on a steady diet of five-star cuisine) all came together to share their passion for the historic Italian brand.

This time the weather had been kind and the racing smooth. So with another great event at this legendary track in the books, our day would come to an end. As we headed reluctantly back to the car, I pondered how I could ever sum up this event in words and one overwhelming conclusion came to mind.

You can look at Ferraris all day long. You can stare at them in magazines, consider their lines, their heritage, debate which one is faster and which one is better. However, it is not until they move and scream to life that you understand why there is an event like this! An event simply dedicated to the passion that is Ferrari.
