We caught up with the enigmatic, straight talking boss of MSW Dubai over the weekend, to discuss what could possibly be one of the most impressive and well thought out project cars conceived in the Middle East… for quite a while. Welcome to Project E30 M3.

Jon initially came across this lovely BMW E30 M3 just over 16 months ago and has been slowly planning and creating what will eventually turn into his dream toy. As a brief synopisis, the plan was to take what is a legendary, game changing car… restore it and bring it bang up to date with modern technology, all while keeping true to the soul and the essence of the car.

When we arrived the E30 had just returned back from the paint shop and as she was looking truly stunning in her naked form… Jon told us it was time to show her to the world?!  We couldn’t agree more.

As you can see, the original dash has been kept. It has been cut up though and had a LOT of lightness added to it.

The first aspect of the car that really knocks you for six, is the utter cleanliness and sanitary vibe. Just check out how stunning it looks inside? Wherever you look, the paint is show quality… inside, out and underneath.

The full bore DTM style cage was beautifully fabricated by Ben Coles and Richard Townsend. The later can usually be seen hawking around the British Touring Car grid. Skills from the both of them? For sure…

If you look closely in the back, you can see the built in solid mount for the differential. A neat touch.

How’s this for sexy? An AP Racing Pedal Box assembly with the Air Jack tucked away in the corner.  Just out of shot is the heel plate which Jon proudly informed us incorporates multiple mounting bosses for variable pedal box positions.

The boingy bits… Dampers are custom built H&R units with some undisclosed goings on. The rear discs are slotted OE items which given the monumental diet the car has been put through will be than up to the task.

So hopefully that brings you up to speed with this killer project as it stands now. In Jon’s words there is still a fair bit to do. “Still to go is the engine re-fresh, Quaife sequential box & shortened prop shaft, Motec Engine management, Race-Tech logging and dashes (having main one Dash plus an aux steering wheel mounted one as well), Lifeline fire suppression, 2 x Cobeau BTCC spec seats & Luke harnesses +++++ but I’m hoping to have her finished by the end of October”

We will be popping our noses back into MSW Dubai very soon, to continue documenting the build all the way until the moment it rolls out of the workshop and onto the track in anger.

Oh and believe us, it will be used in anger!
