There’s always been a bit of a stigma attached to owning a Porsche Boxster. Despite its revered handling and chuckable nature, buy one and you were immediately labeled ‘the guy who couldn’t afford a 911’.
Porsche have taken notice, hoping to rid the reputation that plagued its now-retired Boxster with this sportier update. Take, for example, the sleek new headlights, elongated and ‘less cute’ than before. Note also the front air inlets that flow naturally with the shape of the bodywork, demonstrated again by the rear lights and the rear ‘wing’. Even the interior was inspired by the scintillating Carrera GT.
Fears that this open-top model would sacrifice speed and lightness for style and heavy strengthening beams have also been put to bed, the Boxster’s new lightweight body making 0-100kph a reality in just 5.7 seconds.
And if that’s not enough, Porsche have also released shots of the new Boxster S. Big brother’s 3.4l engine now produces 315bhp – five more than its previous generation – and walks to 100kph in just 5 seconds.
Porsche’s little bruiser has done some growing up, and its long time rivals – the BMW Z4 and the Audi TT – should start getting nervous.
