Dodge has released images of the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat, the most powerful iteration of the model in the company’s history.
[Not a valid template]Lift the lid and you’ll find an all-new 6.2-litre supercharged HEMI V8, similarly the most powerful V8 to have rolled out the Chrysler Group. A key element of the new engine (which has been significantly re-mapped to control the colossal power on offer) is its forged-steel crankshaft with induction-hardened bearing surfaces. Simply put, the unit can withstand firing pressures of 1595psi, the equivalent of five family sedans standing on each piston. Though technical specifications have yet to be fully revealed, the new HEMI V8 puts out 600+hp and 475lb ft of torque.
Exterior mods on the Hellcat include a larger front splitter, the larger bonnet and ‘cold-air’ intake (in deference to the 1996 second gen Dodge Viper), and a more aggressive front grille, the design of which has been inspired by the 1971 first generation Challenger.
