Fans and aficionados of crankandpiston’s own Luke Gilbertson would be forgiven for stopping ever so slightly in their tracks when first catching a glimpse of his latest set.
I mean yes, his latest discovery on the streets of London, UK, is after all a Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir (no, not the Super Sport version), a model which continues an established tradition of hyper exclusive editions. Granted it’s not quite as limited as the McLaren MP4-12C HS – of which only five were made – but there’s still only fifteen of these Sang Noir models roaming the plains.
And alongside this exclusivity, naturally, we have the traditional eye-watering price tag. At this year’s Pebble Beach Quail concourse event, for example, we saw the debuting Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse model snatched up for a cool $2.5 million, and there won’t be much change left from $1.7 million for a Sang Noir either.
So aside from the black exterior and shock orange aesthetic eye candy inside, what else would one get for this price? Ah…er…right…
…well, there’s heritage for one. This edition, first unveiled in 2008, is Bugatti‘s spiritual successor to the Type 57 Atlantic, one of the marque’s most exclusive editions. Plus the 8.0l quad-turbocharged W16 engine in this Saudi-plated Bugatti should still chuck out a 431kph top speed. We’ll be honest though, we’re furrowing our brows and drawing a bit of a blank after that….
