Mercedes-Benz grafts a larger rear onto its CLA compact to create the CLA Shooting Brake.
[Not a valid template]If you’re a fan of the Mercedes-Benz CLA compact saloon but just wish it had more space in the back, good news! The CLA Shooting Brake wagon has just been announced, and here it is.
Largely identical to the saloon from the front to the rear seats, the changes are restricted to plenty more space for gubbins in the boot. With the rear seats in their regular position there’s now 495 litres of space in the back compared to 470 in the saloon, while you can also move the seats slightly forward to increase that to 595 litres while still leaving room for three in the back. Dispense with your friends and fold the back seats down, and you have 1354 litres to play with.
The Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake is due to launch in various markets at the start of next year. Depending on the market, it’ll come with a choice of two diesel and three petrol engines. The 2.1-litre diesels are the CLA 200 CDI and CLA 220 CDI, with 134bhp and 175bhp respectively, while petrol flavour starts with the 120bhp, 1.6-litre CLA 180. The other petrol units are the 1.6-litre, 154bhp CLA 200 and the CLA 250, which is powered by a 2-litre turbocharged engine producing 208bhp. The latter is also available in all-wheel drive 4MATIC form.
A special edition version will be available at launch called the OrangeArt, which has orange highlights on the headlamps, wheels and seats.
