For JDM Otaku there are few cars that get the pulse racing like a Nissan Skyline. The name may have continued in the V35 and V36 Skylines, rebadged for export markets as the Infiniti G Series, but the last of the true Skylines with straight-six power was the R34 Skyline which ended production over a decade ago.
As one of the last cars produced under the Japanese manufacturer ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’, restricting power output to 280 bhp, the R34 Skyline was the culmination of Nippon techno-wizardry and the end of an era. The ultimate weapon in the Skyline arsenal was the R34 GT-R.
The chances of seeing one in the Emirates is slim due to restrictive laws in registering a right-hand drive car. Imagine our surprise then when we stumbled across this fine example on a random crankandpiston road trip.
Granted, we were in Khor Fakkan on our way down to Fujariah and the east coast of the Emirates is well known as JDM country. Seeing an R34 GT-R in iconic Midnight Purple parked at the side of the road was still an opportunity we were not going to miss and a hasty U-turn was engaged.
The late afternoon sun was just about perfect to capture the myriad of colours in the deep multi-flip paint as we hastily grabbed a few shots. The proud owner (who was getting his hair cut) was more than willing to indulge our brief drooling over his car.
