The SRT Viper GTS is unveiled to a crowd of would-be snake charmers ahead of the 2013 Dubai Motor Show.
[Not a valid template]The Dodge badge may have been dropped – from this fifth generation of the iconic American muscle machine – but the snake has most definitely returned with added bite. The Viper GTS is now the flagship performance model within the SRT – Street and Racing Technology – division of Chrysler LLC which features high-performance vehicles of the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep brands.
The SRT Viper GTS is hand-built at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, the Viper’s home since 1995. Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. said “The SRT Viper GTS offers a perfect blend of extreme performance and a deliberate preservation of what has become the iconic DNA of the Viper. We strove to deliver a supercar that continues to bring the driver as close as possible to the machine.”
The SRT Viper GTS builds on its serpentine DNA of the SRT Viper model with more technologically advanced solutions such as its ‘driver-selectable two-mode suspension system’. “We’ve purposely evolved the iconic soul and raw performance formula that Viper has maintained over the years,” Gilles said. “Our returning customers will see the world-class levels of pride, quality and hand-built craftsmanship built into the latest generation Viper.”
I am not really sure what most of that means. So here is the important bit that has me itching to get behind the wheel of the SRT Viper GTS and – hopefully – charm the pants of it. It has a handcrafted, all aluminium 8.4-litre, mid-front V-10 producing 640hp. It has 600 lb/ft of torque which is the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world. It has a top speed of over 331kph and 0-100kph arrives in the low three second range.
Did I mention the torque?
