Check it out – the new McLaren 650S. It’s a 12C on steroids.
[Not a valid template]Low-res pics and a video have leaked of the next addition to the McLaren line-up – the 650S, which will be available in both coupe and convertible form. Seemingly an evolution of the 12C, McLaren has decided to give the car a new name, rather than relate it back to the original car. So it’s not a 12C Speciale then, at least in name.
Visually, it looks similar to the 12C, but with obvious elements taken from the P1 hypercar around the front. It’ll sit above the 12C but still considerably below the P1 in terms of positioning, and as the name suggests will boast 650PS, or 641bhp, from a tuned version of McLaren’s twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 engine.
The leaked information alongside these pictures suggests all the important bits have been uprated over the 12C, such as suspension, aero, tyres, brakes and the transmission. We’ll need to wait until the Geneva Motor Show next month to see the car in the metal. But we’re always willing to wait for a new McLaren.
