Rapid Response Vehicle Jaguar XJR set to run the hill at Goodwood with world speed land record holder Andy Green at the wheel.
[Not a valid template]To accompany its technical partnership with the Bloodhound Project world land speed record attempt, Jaguar has released both an F-TYPE Rapid Response Vehicle and, now, a pair of XJRs kitted out for the same purpose. Given the Special Vehicle Operations treatment, both XJRs – powered by the company’s 550hp 5-litre supercharged V8 that hits 0-100kph in 4.4 seconds and a 280kph top speed – have been stripped and fitted with a roll cage, specially-made housings to carry tools, and a bespoke blue and orange livery to mimic the rocket and jet-powered Bloodhound.
Both RRV XJRs will support Bloodhound SSC on its run at the South African Haakskeen Pan. Current land speed record holder Wing Commander Andy Green will drive one of the XJRs up the hill at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
As well as its technical and innovation partnership with the Bloodhound Project, Jaguar also supported Richard Noble’s Thrust 2 attempt in 1983, and Andy Green’s Thrust SSC run in 1997.
