McLaren unveils P1 GTR in Le Mans inspired livery ahead of Geneva Motor Show debut

At the Geneva Motor Show, McLaren will unveil the new track-focused P1 GTR in full race livery. The livery- for those of you who thought it looked familiar – is a homage to the yellow and green racing colours used by the #51 Mach One Racing F1 GTR (chassis #06R) used by Derek and Justin Bell, and Andy Wallace to complete an all McLaren podium at Le Mans in 1995. Little else though has been modified on the P1 GTR over its Design Concept.
Sharing the same M838T 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 powerplant as its road going alter-ego, the new P1 GTR also integrates a lightweight electric motor for a combined power output of 986bhp, 789bhp of which comes from the V8. Aerodynamic modifications include a new front splitter and wider front track, allowing for a lower ride height. Unlike the road car, a fixed rear wing sits 400mm above the bodywork, and in conjunction with the aerodynamic ‘air blades’ at the front, increase downforce by up to 10 percent. Which, translated, means it’ll corner like a mothereffer. Formula 1 inspired DRS also remains intact.
The P1 GTR also completes McLaren’s three-tier performance series, following the launch of both the Sport and Super Series. The track-focused newboy will go on show alongside the brand new 675LT in Geneva. McLaren has also confirmed that the new Sport Series will make its debut at this year’s New York Motor Show in April.
