McLaren makes the 12C more hardcore with the 12C GT Sprint. Too hardcore for the road, in fact.
[Not a valid template]Thought the McLaren 12C (formerly the MP4-12C) was hardcore? Wrong. THIS is the hardcore one, the track-only 12C GT Sprint. Clad in Pirelli racing slicks, the McLaren 12C GT Sprint boasts a lower ride height, better cooling and improved aerodynamics to sit between the regular 12C and the full-on GT3 and CanAm racing cars. It’s been put together by the same McLaren department that builds the race cars, McLaren GT.
Power from the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 remains 616bhp to the rear wheels and all the driving tech from the road car stays, but McLaren has made the chassis more focused on outright performance. There’s also an on-board air jack and centre-lock OZ wheels.
Inside, there’s an FIA-approved roll cage and fire extinguisher system, a HANS-approved composite racing seat with a six-point harness and a carbonfibre-housed, race-developed digital display on the dashboard. Middle East customers, fear not – the air con system remains in place. The car will make its debut at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.
The price? A shade under $300,000.
