PPRE Six-Rotor RX4 Track Test at the 2013 V 4 & Rotary North Island Jamboree
Felix Wankel, inventor of the rotary engine, was born 13th August 1902. Our crankandpiston name might make you believe that we are somehow biased to the up and down rather than the round and round but that just ain’t so. We love a bit of Wankel action as much as the next Rotard (a disciple of the rotary) as witnessed by our recent visit to the NSU Motorenwerke Museum in Neckarsulm, Germany.
The Tao of the Rotard in modern times has left NSU long behind and is now populated by Mazdafarian mad scientists. They continue to shun the piston in favour of the cam and practice the dark art of Bridge-porting and flirt with Peripheral-port madness. Occasionally, they go full Rotard and build a six-rotor RX-4.
Happy birthday Felix.
