Driving off road was something completely new to me when when I made my way back to the Middle East. I had been off road a lot as a kid and spent time in the UK bashing around quarries and green lanes, however heading out into the big dunes was completely knew to me.
I am very lucky to get out in the sand quite alot have been able to drive some pretty cool and “hardcore” machines in the sand. I think this experience gives me a little bit of knowledge to make some form of objective comments when it comes to machines of choice and their respective pro’s and con’s. There are however a lot of cars that are very much misunderstood!
The Orca (LR3) is one such rig! The LR3 is one of those sadly mistaken vehicles who’s talents will never be believed or understood by a wider audience. The audience that I am talking about is the Land Cruiser, Patrol gang!

Even mentioning the LR3 to an owner of a Cruiser will summon groans and moans. Little do they know how sublime and agile the car feels when it is out in the sand. To be honest for a nigh on 3 tonne vehicle the car can really hustle in the sand and feels deft to the touch. I am a big believer that feel and touch make’s a car – The LR3 gives you that. Rather amazing really!
