Porsche 911 Carrera GTS. The Final 997?

Yes, it’s yet another Porsche 911 variant – the last in a long line of models spun out from the 997 platform before the new 998-series lands in a year’s time. This model is the Carrera GTS – a rear-drive, 3.8-litre machine that packs a power output of 408bhp, some 23bhp more than a common Carrera S. Acceleration to the benchmark 100kph takes 4.2secs for a PDK’ed Carrera GTS in Sport Plus mode, a 0.1sec improvement.

Though it’s rear-drive, the GTS shares the body – and wider track – of the Carrera 4 model. It’s designed to sit between the Carrera models and the more hardcore GT3 line-up as the ultimate Carrera flavoured 911. You can choose to have it in coupe or cabriolet form – no Targa version is offered.

There are plenty of trick details that are unique to the GTS such as the gloss black 19-inch RS Spyder wheels – complete with central locking nuts and polished edges – fancier bumpers and sideskirts plus a smattering of logos and black finishing dotted around the exterior. Even the outer edge of the sports exhaust is painted black.

Inside, it’s a party of black Alcantara and the three-spoke steering wheel features the proper paddles for the PDK gearbox, rather than the confusing push-me/pull-you jobbies that are standard on the rest of the Carrera range. You can choose to spec the six-speed manual box as an option, though you’ll be in the extreme minority in the Middle East should you choose to do so!
